This is ridiculous.

I've been sick since Saturday night. Yesterday afternoon it looked as though my temeperature was going down at last, but I must have threatened its girlfriend, for it has come back with a vengeance. This will make the fourth Urinetown rehearsal missed in the last two weeks (who cares about classes?).

Campaigning

Drama Advisory Board met today, and I officially brought forth my edited Pillowman script as a possibility, having heard from T that it was short enough. It got some support, and we may make a decision next week.

In two days I'll be on my way to Santa Fe for my St. John's visit.

I didn't want to believe people like this existed...

"Just so you know, I signed a contract with the venture capitalists."

"What did the contract say?"

"I don't know. It was dark."

...My saying anything else would only detract from it.

Senior business

The new project I must deal with is my senior space for the yearbook. In last year's yearbook, every single picture of me (apart from my mug shot, of course) was in the theater section, and I have very similar plans for my senior space: a collage of cast photos both in school and out. I have a physcial model lying on my desk right now, but the real challenge will be making the TIFF document version, seeing as the only computer-savvy person in this household is away on a business trip. At least it's not due until the end of the month.

I noticed while practicing my Urinetown songs just now that the higher notes are feeling more comfortable. This is good.

Huh.

According to Lewis & Clark, my middle name is Daniel, not Davis. I have not seen that particular mistake before.

Pun troubles.

It is very funny. Watch it. Now.

School news.

Either Zeus is a little too fond of Thomas Aquinas or he forgot to take his crazy pills before Humanitas today. His teachings were logically sketchy before, but now he's in direct conflict with basic laws of physics. "Everything in motion (physical or not) tends toward rest." Um, not according to Newton's 1st Law. Everything in motion tends toward motion unless externally influenced. "Complete happpiness will, when reached, end any personal loss of energy." Well, if you're gonna remain alive (and what can be emotional when dead) your brain will require energy, and expending none breaks the Law of Conservation.

The AP Stats teacher will be gone after today. He says his departure is for personal, not professional reasons, but the students (myself included) guess otherwise.

We spent History of Justice in mock judicial review of the Westboro Baptist Church v. Albert Snyder case. In my opinion, the actions of the church fell outside of the 1st Amendment not regarding freedom of speech, but the right to "peaceably assemble." When you inflict emotional distress and have to regularly ask the police in advance for security during your deomnstrations, I say you ain't peaceful.

We're laying the groundwork for two-person scenes to be written in Dramatic Writing (whose class size is now stable at 4). I need to find a pair of character models.

Breaking out the scissors

Chief, Ratched, and I met with T at lunch to discuss the spring play, and we all like the idea of one half of it being a seniors-only one-act. There are four of us seniors (including Candy) interested, which just so happens to be the cast size of The Pillowman. It got shot down for the fall play, but I presented my arguments for it to T and he seems willing to go along with it. The one big problem is that the play is way too long to present as a one-act. Still, if King Lear can be shaved down to an hour and a half, I bet the same can be done here. If it comes off, however, I definitely want my name in the program as an editor; this will be a lot of work.

I need to put some more points into my Wisdom score.

They never learn

"Wherefore" does not mean "where;" it means "why." Wherefore can people not understand this?

Back at school

Git out the grill, Pa! We're havin' counselor ribs tonight!

Turns out that my transcript was never sent to St. John's in the first place. This has been corrected.

[next day]

Huh. I left this post a long time without posting.

My dramatic writing class consists of two--posibly three--students.

Various and sundry alumni visited today, including Bedlam and Musical.

T is directing Mr. Cladwell (me) like a blend of Mr. Burns, Snape, and a Bond villain.

The campus is a swamp.

Now I must finish the second season of Slings and Arrows. (Santa was good to me this Christmas. Good a very Shakespeare-heavy.)

*whump*

A visit to St. John's college has been scheduled. No, I still don't know if I've been accepted, but now I know that it's because they haven't yet received my transcript and one of my letters of recommendation. They could be waiting in the stacks of paperwork, but when I go back to school tomorrow I'm strapping on my college-counselor-hunting gear just in case. Anyhoo, they assigned me a bit of homework before I arrive later this month: 616 pages of The Brothers Karamazov.
